Get hurt or take my chances?

i don't noe if my ex boyfriend wants to get back together. i want to ask him but i don't want to get hurt again. he hurt me once becasue he made a mistake and im willing to give him another chance. becasue everyone makes mistakes right? i think he thinks that coz he hurt me i don't want anything to do with him. thats not tru. despite everything i want to give him another chance. do i wait till he comes to me (thats if he will) or do i take my chances and ask him if he wants to give it another go and maybe get hurt in the process if he says no. i still want to be with him. im not sure how he feels. im too scared to ask. id rather not say anything. im the type of person that will like a guy form a far and never do anything about it.
