If this is the situation then yes, i think you should wait it out. It'll be worth it possibly because he still really likes you, everything is just all on him though. So all you can really do is wait, keep telling him to reconsider, well not constantly but yes, at least remind him to keep him ured that he can come back to you when he's ready.
